In the rich oeuvre of Pieter Bijwaard is to see that he is often looking for new roads to take. However, his signature is always present. The drawings of Bijwaard witness a hidden force. That power is created by the dedication and skill with which he makes his drawings. The variety in images and technique is remarkable. The drawings exude an intimate atmosphere and are layered in their meaning. Pieter Bijwaard works since the mid-1970s, barring a few exceptions, on one paper size: 32,5 x 25 cm. This format creates a formal unit in his oeuvre. He attended the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
